NEW STUFF!

HAPPY NEW YEAR... Welcome to 2017! Many highlights from 2016 to be celebrated. One great memory from December was that we had a music video shoot at our Thursday event, & we are impatiently waiting to see which of us dancers are in it Lol! (We have not seen the final, edited version yet.) A lovely couple, David & Brittany Farkas, are talented musicians (they also dance some West Coast Swing). They just released a new album called "Smilin'"; one of the songs "Love Forever" is good for Country 2-Step dancing. So we had lots of fun dancers 2-steppin' to their beautiful song. Check out their music at Go Farkas.com.

The story behind the story (literally)...

We were setting up for the night, & Phil was figuring out how to hang our relatively new promo banner (thanks Dennis) behind our DJ table on the stage. It's quite large, & took some creative solutions on Phil's part to attach it . As he was hanging it from the curtain, the two ends accidentally folded in, & you could only read the middle part of the sign... which showed MindiaDance.com. Phil said that he needed different hooks to fix it, but I didn't see anything wrong with it; I said that it looked fabulous! Anyway, it was a special night indeed. Thanks to all for coming out to play!

DRUM ROLL PLEASE...

Earlier this year, I contacted a cat food company that I found on the web. Jasper Cat (the abandoned neighborhood kitty that adopted Phil & I) may have some food allergies, so I've been researching limited ingredient foods. The woman I spoke to on the phone asked me about Jasper; then she encouraged me to submit a photo for their annual calendar contest. I just got news that Jasper has his pic featured for the month of January in the calendar haha! He was one of 12 lucky animals out of nearly 3000 entries that were winners. And Jasper wants me to emphasize that he got the January spot, not March or November. (As if he didn't already think he owned the block.) So funny that it all happened "by accident." Talk about a silver lining. Blessings come from challenging situations so often. Phil took the photo & wants credit, although I noticed the precious moment & told Phil to get his camera to take the pic. (The photo was taken long before we knew about the contest. See FB posting.) Let's just call it an "alley-oop"; a basketball term I use a lot: an offensive play in which one player throws the ball near the basket to a teammate who jumps, catches the ball in mid air, & puts it in the hoop before touching the ground! (Sports people are pretty impressed with me right now.) Phil thinks we need to get an ink pad to stamp Mr. Celebrity Cat's paw for autographing. Or shall we call him Mr. Calendar Cat? I'm a very proud Mama; he is like my first child. Wasn't I just posting on FaceBook recently about how photogenic Jasper is, & that he takes after his Mama? (Scroll back on my FB wall for more fun pics!)

***SCHEDULE CHANGES FOR JANUARY 2017***

INTERNATIONAL FLASHMOB WEST COAST SWING COMPILATION VIDEO!

WOO HOO LOS ANGELES... Phil & I ARE SO PROUD OF ALL OF OUR STUDENTS! THE INTERNATIONAL FLASHMOB WEST COAST SWING COMPILATION VIDEO HAS CITIES IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER (LOOK FOR THE "L" GROUP! We are around 4 minutes 13 or 14 seconds into the video.) Go on our FB wall or YouTube to view. VENUE: SANTA MONICA PROMENADE, SEPTEMBER 3rd, 2016. BRAVO TO ALL DANCERS IN CITIES AROUND THE WORLD! 39 countries represented, 240 cities, & 6000 dancers around the globe! Amazing! So grateful to be part of this incredible project; we had so much fun teaching the entertaining choreography. Thank you France, & to all who helped to make this possible!

BY THE WAY...The follow-up salmon story.

I did bring home more salmon the other day (I'm mostly vegetarian, but eat some fish, chicken, etc.) I offered a 3-way split between Phil, Jasper Cat, & I. But Phil said that I gave Jasper a bigger piece. Phil didn't eat it his anyway Lol! (Of course Jasper enjoyed his treat.)

CALL YOU OUT!

Here is where we get to pick on our readers, instead of each other haha!

Phil is calling out Steve & Jane (but it may be mostly Steve)... Phil & I were scheduled to teach a workshop at an event recently. Earlier in the week before the event, Steve said that he & Jane were coming. I was not feeling well, & ended up not going at all to the event. Phil saw Steve & Jane at the event in the morning, but they were a no show for the workshop! When Phil spoke to Steve later, wondering what happened, Steve said something like, "Well, Mindia wasn't there, so we changed our plans."

As far as the wrap-up from last time: I called out Larry for thinking I was sick when he saw me without my full make-up on! A few years ago, Phil & I went to the hospital; he needed a few outpatient tests. (No worries; he is ok.) We walked up to the nurse's desk to check in. They instantly assumed I was the patient, & wanted to know what was wrong with me! It was early in the morning; I had recently rolled out of bed. (I have never been one of those people who pop up like toast, & am proud of it. ) No make up on, no fixed hairdo (probably hiding under a hat), & certainly no smile on my face. I'm very human.

TUNE-UP YOUR PLAYLIST!

We want to share with you our favorite songs of the week!
